When Talking Isn’t Enough

Many people seeking somatic therapy have already done talk therapy and found it helpful—up to a point. Over time, they may realize they have become skilled at understanding their thoughts and emotions but still feel stuck, sensing that there is deeper healing needed within the body. Somatic therapy offers a different approach—one that helps access and release stored emotions and trauma through body awareness, sensation, and movement.

How You Will Be Supported

At Journey to Growth Counselling, we offer gentle, client-led somatic therapy to help you reconnect with your body’s wisdom in a safe and supported way. Sessions begin with talk therapy to identify a focus, then transition into guided body awareness. Through this process, you will learn to notice, observe, and allow bodily sensations without overanalyzing them, creating space for deep emotional processing and nervous system regulation.

Support includes:
✔ Developing a deeper understanding of your body’s signals and emotional cues
✔ Observing and working with sensations to release stored trauma
✔ Regulating your nervous system and increasing resilience
✔ Gaining insight into emotional patterns and their physical connections
✔ Identifying personal needs and exploring how to integrate this awareness into daily life

Our Approach

Your comfort and consent are at the heart of this work. We introduce somatic therapy gently, often beginning with positive sensations such as joy to help you build confidence in tuning into your body. Every session is client-led, meaning you are always in control of the process. If at any point you prefer to return to talk therapy, we check in to ensure the shift aligns with your needs.

A typical session might include:

  • Brief talk therapy to identify an event or emotion to explore

  • Guided body awareness exercises with invitations to notice sensations

  • Gentle exploration of physical shifts, movements, or postures that arise

  • Orientation exercises to help you feel grounded before returning to discussion

  • Reflection on the experience, identifying any insights or next steps

Virtual & In-Person Sessions Available

Somatic therapy is available through virtual counselling (video sessions) as well as in-person sessions in both Sooke, BC and Port Coquitlam, BC. Whether you’re new to this approach or looking for a way to deepen your healing journey, we are here to support you.
